Who we are
The Swiss Geoscience Meetings are organised by the Swiss Academy of Sciences SCNAT though its Platform Geosciences, each year in partnership with another public institution of higher education in Switzerland (hereafter “the organisers”). The present Website is maintained by the Platform Geosciences of the Swiss Academy of Sciences.
What personal data we collect and why we collect them
When an abstract is submitted on this site we collect the data entered in the abstract submission form, and also the visitor’s IP address, submission date and time and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
The abstract title, abstract authors names, symposium choice, presentation type chosen (poster or talk) and the PDF of the abstract you have submitted are posted on this website and are visible to anybody. These information are also collected for the abstract volume, as well as for the printed program booklet.
The “Gender” and “Academic stage” answers are collected to improve statistical analyses of SGM attendance with the final goal to promote gender equality and diversity at future events, your responses will be kept private. Your email address is collected to keep you informed about your abstract submission as well as about other subjects pertaining to the organisation of the Swiss Geoscience Meeting.
Your phone number is collected so that the organisers of the Swiss Geoscience Meeting can, if need be, quickly get in touch with you about your abstract submission.
when you upload your abstract (both as Word and PDF documents) to the website, you should remove hidden data and personal information you do not wish to share. Please see the «Help protect your privacy» and «Remove hidden data and personal information» pages from Microsoft.

Who we share your data with
Your email address is shared with the session conveners so that they can inform you about the acceptance or rejection of your abstract or request additional information from you about your abstract submission. Your email address and phone number are neither given nor sold to third parties.

All pages of the Swiss Geoscience Meeting website are encrypted using SSL-encryption (https)
How long we retain your data
If you submit an abstract, the abstract and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so that we can publish them in the abstract volume.
You have a right to withdraw your abstract up to one month maximum after the submission deadline. In this case we will also delete all personal data and metadata related to your abstract submission from the present website.
What rights you have over your data
If you have submitted an abstract on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include your submitted abstract, personal data that are part of your abstract, or any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Abstract submissions may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
