4th Swiss Geoscience Meeting, Bern 2006

The Institute of Geological Sciences and the Geographical Institute, University of Bern, as well as GEOforumCH, the platform for geosciences of the Swiss Academy of Sciences, cordially invite you to come to Bern to participate in the 4th Swiss Geoscience Meeting to be held Friday and Saturday 24th-25th November 2006

Following the successful previous sessions in Basel (2003), Lausanne (2004) and Zürich (2005), the fourth edition of the Swiss Geoscience Meeting is aimed at demonstrating the importance of Geosciences for our society. Apart from an overview of hot research in modern and classical areas of geosciences we will concentrate of this year’s theme:

GEOSCIENCES FOR SOCIETY

Keynote talks will highlight the questions pertaining to rock-water interaction in the field of waste disposal and the issues associated with transferring scientific knowledge to the society. There will also be an address by a federal politician on aspects of education and research at university level.

The symposia on Saturday offer a wide spectrum of scientific research topics, ranging from natural hazards and risks to geochemical cycling or from mammal paleontology to protection forests. In addition, the SGM offers a platform for the presentation and discussion of the latest ideas in geosciences in the frame of open sessions and posters. There will also be an evening session allowing discussion on almost unlimited topics over a beer!
